Happy New Year Everyone! Let's Make it the best Ever!
Lot's of catching up to do. I have listened to a ton of different music over the past 4 months.
I have listed them in order of personal enjoyment.
Please email me some of your new favorites so that I can post them for others!
I am in need of some kick-ass rock stuff!
Rate 0-5 | Genre | Artist | Album | Favorite Songs | Review |
3.5 | Blues Rock | The Black Keys | El Camino | Lonely Boy, Dead and Gone, Gold On The Ceiling, Money Maker, Nova Baby | Buckly Recommendation:A pretty solid album, punchy and deep with lots of Fuzz. Yet another White Stripes copier with a softer touch. I like some of the Neil Young type garage guitar too. Some Ian Astbury (the Cult) pitch on Money Maker. Kids really love Lonely Boy and Gold on the Ceiling. |
3.5 | Pop Alternative Rock | The Drums | Portamento | Book of Revelation, Days, What You were, What You Were. How it Ended | Third Album: Favorite album - Really good production quality here. Great melodies. Love the "Days" song. Some "Sparks" influence. |
3.5 | Rock | Cold Play | Mylo Xyloto | Hurts Like Heaven, Paradise, Charlie Brown, Every TearDrop is a Waterfall | Album starts out strong. Brings back memories of the old U2 and Simple Minds. I really like "Charlie Brown" - gives me the chills when real loud driving down the highway. |
3.5 | Indie Rock | Vampire Weekend | Contra | Holiday, Taxi Cab, Diplomat's Son | Neighbor Ed Recommendation: Paul Simonish voice. Simple, pleasant, refreshing, happy, quirky, light, fun and unique! Songs sound better and better. Afro beats reminesent of early David Bryne/Talking Heads without the guitar. |
3.5 | Indie Rock | Vampire Weekend | Vampire Weekend | Oxford Comma, A-Punk, Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa, M79, One (Blakes'Got a New Face), I Stand Corrected, The Kids Don't Stand a Chance | First Album: Probably the best one. |
3.5 | Electronic | John Foxx | Metamatic Delux Edition | Nice to have this in digital form once and for all. Not quite Gary Numan but he tried.
3 | Jazz | Wes Montgomery | Bumpin' On Sunset | I grew up with this constantly on my Dad's turn table just had to get it to remember how good jazz guitar used to be.
3 | Latin Jazz | Willie Bobo | Spanish Grease | Another one from my childhood. Fantastic songs if you are in the mood for spicing things up latino style!
3 | RnB | Junior Walker and The AllStars | The Ultimate Collection | Shotgun | Childhood classic - cool sax. |
3 | Pop | Maroon 5 | Hands All Over | Moves Like Jagger, Misery, Don't Know Nothing | Kids favorite so I had to download it. It is a rather smooth album |
3 | New Wave | Empire of the Sun | Walking On A Dream | Walking on a Dream, We are the People, Swordfish HotKiss Night, Without You | Some Gary Numan twang in voice and Fadgadget Influence. Nice melodies. Must see video of them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RirFEbFvvcA |
3 | Rock | Florence and the Machine | Ceremonials | Kind of reminds me of the old Annie Lennox days. Very full sound with many anthems. You have to be in a certain mood - very heavy.
3 | Surf Revival | Laika and the Cosmonauts | Amazing Colossal Band | Aztec 2 Step, Floating, Get Carter | Thanks Greg for the recommendation! Desert trekking music. |
3 | Surf Rock | Los Straitjackets | Viva Los Straitjackets | The Casbah, Pacifica, Swamp Fire | Pound the Pacifica's and Dance! Another great one from Greg. |
3 | Reggae | Trevor Hall | Trevor Hall | Internal Heights, Lime Tree | Nice music Greg! |
3 | Reggae | Mishka | Above The Bones | Coastline Journey | Needed some more backyard reqgae - thanks again Greg. |
3 | Japanese Rock | yurayura teikoku | Dudes. Check this out. I’m pretty confident you will dig it. Check out how the drummer holds his sticks…….. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibkDVzUvynU&feature=share
3 | Rock | Rolling Stones | Beggars Banquet | Neigbor Ed recommends to go back to the far past and re-kindle this classic - he can't take the needle off the album.
2.5 | Pop Alternative Rock | The Drums | The Drums | Best Friend, Book of Stories, I''ll Never Drop My Sword | Second Album: There are really getting better on this one. More catchy toons. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jpm4eJ6l1n4&ob=av2e |
2.5 | Alternative Indie Rock | Atlas Sound | Parallax | My Angel is Broken, LightsWorks | Hypnotic and dreamy music like Eno. |
2.5 | Soundtrack | Twighlight Saga Eclipse Soundtrack | Various Artists | Good mix of new stuff
2.5 | Pop Rock | Young the Giant | Young the Giant | Cough Syrup, Your Side, Garands | Some U2/Cold Play rhythm vibes, Gomez type voice. |
2.5 | Electronic | The Naked and Famous | Passive Me Aggressive You | Punching in a Dream | Some fun easy electronica |
2 | Alternative Indie Rock | The Black Belles | The Black Belles | The Wrong Door, Howl At The Moon, Pushing Up Dasies | Buckly Recommendation: Voice is kind of like Gwen Stafani with a few Lene Lovich pitches. Some White Stripe background riffs. Spooky Halloweenish like Dead Weather. |
2 | Electronic Pop | Mathew Herbert | One One | Leipzig | If you feel if you want to go on a electronic trip hop. Might be a little too trippy for me. |
2 | Pop Alternative Rock | The Drums | Summertime | Let's Go Surfing, Saddest Summer | First Album (not the best one). I love these guys because they bring me back to my high school days when I tried to start a band. They sound like something I could have played in the 80s. Very simple but they have some very catchy toons. Some Smiths, New Order, Marc Almond, PinBack influence. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeZbbx5SPTs |
2 | Pop | The Bangles | Sweetheart of the Sun | Anna Lee | Had to get it because of how they sounded on KLOS/Mark-Brian show. Susanna Hoffs still has the voice. A bit of an edgy album. |
2 | Electronica | The Phoenix | Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix | 1901 | Kind of whiny with some Florence background tubelar bell melodies. |
2 | Blues Rock/Spoken Word | Tom Waits | Bad As Me | Good if you are over the top drunk. Hard to listen to sober.
2 | Indie Rock | Band of Skulls | Baby Darling Doll Face Honey | Death By Diamonds and Pearls | That’s one kick ass song. |
2 | Pop Electronic | The Human League | Credo | I thought this may have been a comback. All the same players but the comeback failed. Lacking the umph bigtime. Can barely listen to the entire album. Daughter did put one song on her Ipod. If you want to see what they look like today and hear a sample of new stuff: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjtzJZ0f6Ac
1.5 | Indie Electronic | Phantogram | Eyelid Movies | Mouthful of Diamonds | Techy twang - slow and mellow like Slow Children. A bit too dreamy for me. |
1 | Reggae | I-Wayne | Life Teachings | I read a good review - review lied. |
